- Find work in the Real World, especially the Service Industry or some kind of public service
- Spend your evenings learning everything you can about the problem(s) you want to solve
- Build a portfolio of your work, start a blog, YouTube channel, etc. The point here is that when people find you, they can see samples of your work.
- Attend industry events, conferences, and meetups. Build a network of people who think you're alright.
- Google the company/department/hiring manager, and send them a short message on LinkedIn. Show your enthusiasm for helping to solve the problem(s) they work on.
